Quirks

Thanks to everyone for their kind and useful comments.
As we all seem to agree, being part of a community of writers (I'm not fond of the term "blogging" but I might just have to get over it) allows us the comfort of discovering that our thoughts, fears, confusions and even our little quirky habits are shared by at least one or a
handful of other intelligent lifeforms out there in the unfathomably large universe. Thank God, or the wizards of technology, for setting us all up with these magic screens and their companion keyboards that condense the world by connecting us so effortlessly to the unseen souls in our midst. It really is quite miraculous.

And now I can feel a bit less strange, realizing that I'm far from being the only person who makes my cats talk. Well. I guess I already knew that because my husband does it. He's actually the one who got me doing it cause he does it all the time.

This morning, for instance, my two black cats, Tara and Claude were listening to NPR with me while I made breakfast. When we heard a story about how some British airline is thinking about combating rising operational costs by charging their in flight customers to use the bathroom, we were all pretty appalled. I said "that's ridiculous" and Claude agreed. "Yeah. Really fucked up," he said. (Claude swears a lot) Then little Tara concurred."That's totally bogus," she added. "Way over the top."

And so. Yes. We Sanfords amuse ourselves by conversing with our cats. It's fun. Really.

  2. Dexter and Bo can say "I love you" and all Watson our cat says is "Owl"...we think it means "out". we always tell her "watson, there's no owls out there, go lay in your window!" then she demon-chatters to the birds she sees...

  3. Oh, my old cat who died last year had quite a vocabulary. He'd go to the door and scratch the door and say, "OUT"! Pause, then "OUT!!!!!!!!" He'd do that until we got up and let him out. I left all his scratches on all the doors because I miss him so much. It reminds me of him.

Every morning around 6 a.m. he's begin his "I want my breakfast NOW" meowing. It would get louder and louder until he'd come into the bedroom and jump on our chests and yowl in our ears. Tee-hee. You'd think I wouldn't miss all that yowling, but some mornings, the silence is deafening.......It's hard to lose a friend of 20 years and pretty much have no one in your family even acknowledge it. People without pets don't seem to understand that they're like people, they're family.

My country daughter has 3 black cats (a total of 9, she has) born the year we had 3 hurricanes in a row (was that last year----maybe?) Their names are Ike, Gustav and Hannah.

Oops, got on my soap box again. Let me just hop down and move along now. (Love the photos of your cats. They're gorgeous.)

  4. Our dogs just so happen to talk too. It's amazing. And they're smarter than we are, so we've got that going for us.

  5. My cats talk as well. There's absolutely nothing out of the ordinary about this. They just need us to interpret from time to time. Mine are even planning on blogging again later this week!

  7. My three cats talk as well, all the time, and one loves to sit on the desk and "read" the screen when I blog or visit other blogs. She is fascinated by photos.
